ANJUNG KONSULT — BAYAN LEPAS, PENANG
A small firm with a specific
purpose in industrial consulting.
We work with manufacturing and industrial firms in the Penang corridor on questions that benefit from a structured, independent reading.
Back to HomeOUR BACKGROUND
How Anjung Konsult came to be, and why we work the way we do.
Anjung Konsult was set up in Bayan Lepas after a number of years working within the industrial and manufacturing sector in Penang and the northern states. The experience of watching well-run plants wrestle with questions that sat just outside their day-to-day management capacity — customer concentration, operating structure, process alignment — made a case for a consulting practice designed specifically for that kind of work.
The firm's name draws on the Malay word anjung, the covered veranda that sits between the front of a house and the world outside — a considered threshold space. That quality — thoughtful, purposeful, neither fully inside nor outside — is something we try to bring to the engagements we take on. We are not part of the firm, but we are not distant observers either.
We keep the number of active engagements small. This is a deliberate choice. It means the consultant leading an engagement has the attention available to do the work carefully, and the firm receives something that reflects their actual situation rather than a general template. It also means we are selective about who we work with, and we are straightforward about that at the outset.
Our office is in the Bayan Lepas Industrial Park, which places us close to the cluster of manufacturers and component firms that make up much of the work we do. Site visits in Bayan Lepas, Batu Kawan and the Penang Science Park are part of the working week, not a logistical exercise.
Our Mission
To provide mid-size industrial firms with structured, independent analysis of the operational and strategic questions that are difficult to address from inside the business — delivered in writing that the firm can use.
Our Values
- Specificity — engagements shaped to the actual question, not a standard framework
- Discretion — client information stays within the engagement
- Plain writing — deliverables that say clearly what they mean
- Proportion — scopes sized to what is needed, not what fills a retainer

HOW WE WORK
Professional standards we hold to in every engagement.
Written Scope Before Work Begins
Every engagement starts with a scope document that defines the work, the deliverables, the timeline and the fee. No work begins without this being agreed in writing by both sides.
Confidentiality as Standard
Operational and commercial information shared during an engagement is treated as confidential. Our scope documents include a confidentiality provision, and we do not use client work as reference material without explicit agreement.
Independence Maintained
We do not hold equity positions in client firms, do not accept commissions from third-party vendors, and do not represent clients in negotiations. Our work is advisory and its independence is part of its value.
Deliverables Reviewed Before Submission
Written outputs are reviewed internally before being passed to the client. We do not send first drafts. The document you receive is the considered version, and we stand behind what it says.
Clear Communication Throughout
If the work reveals something unexpected, we say so directly. If the scope needs to shift, we discuss it before changing anything. Clients are not surprised by the content of the final document.
Data Handling with Care
Commercial and operational data provided during engagements is handled carefully, stored securely and not retained beyond the period needed for the work. We comply with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010.
OUR EXPERTISE
Industrial consulting grounded in the Penang manufacturing environment.
The manufacturing sector in Penang — particularly the industrial parks at Bayan Lepas and Batu Kawan, and the expanding facilities around the Penang Science Park — sits in a complex position. Firms here are often operating within global supply chains, serving customers whose requirements change with some frequency, and managing operations that have grown in ways that were not necessarily planned from the outset.
Anjung Konsult works specifically within this environment. Our engagements draw on direct familiarity with how manufacturing plants and contract manufacturers in this corridor are structured, what pressures their operations teams typically face, and what kinds of questions are most usefully addressed with outside help versus those better handled internally.
Operations diagnostic work in this context means more than a checklist review. It means understanding the rhythm of a specific plant — its shift patterns, its maintenance culture, its reporting relationships — and identifying where the friction is actually located, rather than where it is most visible. The written summary that results from a diagnostic engagement is shaped by that understanding.
Strategy review work for contract manufacturers in Penang takes into account the specific dynamics of the region — customer concentration patterns among EMS and precision component firms, the upstream sourcing relationships that have developed over decades, and the commercial terms that tend to characterise long-standing manufacturing relationships here. The options we set out in a strategy review reflect those realities rather than a generic framework applied from outside the region.
Operating model work at the multi-plant level draws on experience with how industrial groups in Malaysia have grown — often organically, with each plant developing its own approach — and what kinds of structural adjustments tend to create lasting alignment versus those that create short-term order but do not hold. Our work in this area is deliberate and unhurried.
